De meeste mensen lijken blij met de naam Xbox. Het klinkt immers wel stoer en mysterieus. Maar er dreigde een probleem te zijn met die naam toen de eerste console van Microsoft in ontwikkeling was. De naam leek risicovol te zijn vanwege problemen met de rechten. Xbox is overigens een afkorting van DirectX Box. Uiteindelijk is toch voor deze naam gekozen door het team achter de eerste Xbox.
