Volgens het tijdschrift Wired heeft een bron dichtbij Apple's hardwareteam details uitgelekt over de nieuwe iPhone. Volgens de "mol" zal de nieuwe iPhone op vrijdag 17 juli uitkomen en komt het in twee "smaken"; een 16GB-versie voor $199,99 en een 32GB-versie voor $299,99.De uitgelekte specificaties van de nieuwe iPhone zijn:• 32GB and 16GB storage (up from the current 16GB and 8GB models) • $199 and $299 price points to be maintained • 3.2-megapixel camera (up from the current 2-megapixel camera) • Video-recording and editing capabilities
• Ability to send a picture & video via MMS
• Discontinuation of the metal band surrounding the edge of the device
• OLED screen
• 1.5 times the battery life of the current models
• Double the RAM and processing power
• Built-in FM transmitter
• Apple logo on back will glow
• Rubber-tread backing

De FM-transmitter is een leuke nieuwe functie, maar niet echt interessant omdat de kwaliteit van streaming muziek - op zijn zachst gezegd - nog niet optimaal is.
Pas begin juni zullen we zeker weten of Wireds insider inderdaad welingelicht was. De specificaties en de lanceerdatum kloppen wel met eerdere geruchten die wij hebben gehoord. Andere geruchten die we hebben gehoord zijn dat het scherm OLED wordt in plaats van LCD, de batterijduur omhoog gaat en dat het Apple-logo opgloeit, zoals bij MacBooks.
